It was a hot and sunny day on Katie and Wesley’s Catoctin Hall wedding at the Musket Ridge Golf Club in Maryland, and the ceremony was beautiful! On Friday, the day before their wedding, I photographed their rehearsal dinner. The time at the rehearsal prepared me for the wedding day Saturday, and helped me get to know the bridal party, while also having a lot of fun in the process!
Katie is one of the most organized brides I’ve had the pleasure of working with! She even created a detailed binder for the groomsmen so that they knew what they needed to do and when they needed to be places throughout the weekend. On top of all that, she planned to have complimentary necessities in the bathrooms for the guests to use throughout the night of the wedding.
Little did she know that those would come in handy! Before the ceremony, when Wesley grabbed some food before pictures, he dropped sauce on his tie and the complimentary items saved the day! While I recommend eating before the ceremony so no one is grumpy or upset by an empty stomach, I tell my clients to try and avoid eating once the dresses and tuxes are on. But, in this instance, it made for a humorous start to the start of photos!
Between the scorching heat, and the direct sunlight, it wasn’t the ideal situation for bridal party photos. But Katie and her bridesmaids overcame it all for photos that were beyond beautiful and made for sweet,
lasting memories in doing so! The whole bridal party proved such a fun bunch to photograph, that we had an easy distraction from the heat we endured.
The Catoctin Hall venue was perfect for Katie and Wesley’s July wedding day! They picked the venue because Wesley loves to golf and Katie is from Frederick county, so it was a special balance.
Catoctin Hall boasts a beautiful indoor space where we photographed all of the first looks, and some other special moments before going outside with the bridal party. We took some stunning golf course pictures and large landscape shots to highlight their wonderful choice of venue!
One special thing about Katie and Wesley is their immense love for their families. While they got married at the Catoctin Hall Wedding venue, their engagement session (read their engagement blog and love story here!) and rehearsal dinner both took place on family property. From their engagement to the wedding day their families have been at the heart of the celebration!
It’s truly wonderful when brides honor the family members who cannot be at their wedding. Katie honored both her great-grandmother and grandmother who had passed with a special lace sewn into the hem of her wedding dress! The piece of lace belonged to her great-grandmother and had her initials stitched into it.
Katie’s mom also played a major role in organizing the entire weekend and Catoctin Hall wedding. She stood up and delivered a speech before the reception highlighting the joy of seeing Katie and Wesley’s love, and her gratitude to have all of their friends and family there to celebrate the marriage!
Katie and Wesley, it was an absolute joy to serve you both, as well as your families on your wedding day! Thank you so much for trusting me through the engagement process, even with the delays due to the pandemic. I had so much fun with you two! Praying you have a marriage filled with blessings!
Hugs,
Ashley
